Sibling love is incredibly special. This is their first best friend and often siblings will have an incredible bond that they will never find with anyone else. Jenna is close with her brother and she was excited for Cruz to have a sibling who was also close to his age!
During the newborn session, I can never predict how a new older sibling will react. Sometimes they are very shy and unsure of this new little creature that has rocked their world. Some are so glad to finally have some one on one attention with Mommy and Daddy because Jen and I are working with the baby. They have so much fun with a couple of hours of undivided attention. Some are SOOOO in love with this little person and will sit next to us and ask to help us (it is super cute!). Cruz was so sweet with his baby brother, he was quite happy to sit next to Jax and his smiles were genuine joy!
I have been watching him grow up from his Mama’s first maternity session, his newborn session and the second pregnancy family session and now this sweet new baby! (and in a few weeks I will be capturing his parents wedding!).
Keeping Jax’s nursery in mind when choosing the colours for the setups we had so much fun with this baby boy! He graced us with a few smiles and we compared how close he looked to his brother (ironically one of the large canvases displayed in my studio is of Jenna holding baby #1 during his session! So we had a life sized comparison!) he decided to open his little yes for a little bit and I was able to capture the cutest picture with both boys!

Eloise was my first baby girl in the studio for 2017, after a long string of baby boys! I was so excited because I am always adding new props to the studio and had a few new items I could not wait to use!
When she arrived she was so incredibly sleepy! This sleep baby girl made posing her very easy. You never know how babies will be during a session, sometimes awake and curious but we never once saw her little eyes! She was a tiny and dainty and curled easily into positions without waking between setups.
Mom and Dad were open to anything in regards to colours and setups and I decided to do a sweet soft girly pink with some neutral browns. Every prop I brought out and used looked better then the last with her! The spring tulips are now out in the stores and I made sure to pick up some fresh pink tulips and styled them around her. The little white cast iron bed has been waiting to be used since the fall and she looked so tiny and sweet curled up sleeping on the quilt. Designing and planning newborns sessions is one of my favourites parts of my job!
I am so happy for this family! Sweet Eloise is such a blessing!

While on vacation on Prince Edward Island, I told myself I was not working for a few days but when the phone rang I answered it quickly not thinking and I am so glad that I did! I received the sweetest phone call, a good friend wanted all information regarding gifting her good friends the cost of her newborn session for her twin boys, she was expecting. I do not get too many opportunities to work with twins and I was very excited (they are actually only the second set of boy twins)!
Working with twins requires extra patience, more hands and careful planning. Often they are a bit smaller or born earlier then the majority of our clients and sometimes they break the rules for age. Ideally, I prefer to photograph newborns at 4-10 days of age. They are still very ‘womb-like’, will curly nicely and will sleep much deeper. If a baby is born premature, we adjust the timeframe taking into consideration health, weight and adjusted age. Once we had word both boys and Mama were coming home from the hospital we scheduled their session.
The twin boys arrived healthy and sweet as could be. My assistant and Jen and I each had a baby to cuddle and they loved to snuggle with each other! I know how fast the first few days fly by, between feedings, diaper changes, the lack of sleep…I can only imagine that being doubled! I am so glad I had the opportunity to capture this brief time in their life. Mom and Dad had the chance to sit back and relax and watch us pose the cuties and Jen and I gently posed them.
I styled this session with a vintage rustic style that will be timeless (vintage rustic is my favourite!), matching cream mohair bonnets, simple cotton and knitted wraps and rich brown fur rugs. Keeping the props simple we focused on their tiny little details and the overwhelming cuteness of twin boys!
We were even gifted a little smile or two! Enjoy these images as much as I had creating them 🙂

One of my favourite parts of a newborn session is the planning and collaborating with parents. I am constantly sourcing new props and accessories for my tiny clients and I love when I get a request that I know I can get very creative! Baby Harlow’s (isn’t her name amazing?) Mama wanted something white and natural. I had white backs drops and props and to give it a unique look I brought the natural outside into the studio by cutting some hydrangeas, that were in season, from a property I own and some wildflowers from my own garden. The results was a perfect blend of of the simple clean white palette and the natural wild flowers.
She was so sweet to work with! So beautiful and perfect and her big brother was sweet and curious about his new little sister.

I had the opportunity to travel to Miranda O’Leary’s studio again to help her photograph the triplets girls for their first birthday! Miranda is an amazing family photographer and she and I had so much fun planning this session! I had time to get a bit crafty and sewed together a few cute little outfits and created the floral hats. Miranda created the beautiful 3d flowers for the back drop and Sugar Mamas matched the cakes to fabric and floral swatches!!
The end result was amazing! These little girls were SOOOO busy and sweet!! Once again it took a crew of helpers and we were sweating and tired after the session (there was quite a bit of clean up!) but we knew it was going to be amazing!
It was hard to believe that these special little girls were already a year old! In their short life they have overcome many obstacles and have brought so much joy to their family’s lives! Celebrating their first birthday in their christening gowns, with an updated family picture and finishing with a cake smash was a perfect way to commemorate this occasion! I am so thankful I had the opportunity to work with them again!
(and I realize I am late blogging this session!)

Scheduling winter babies for their first photo session can sometimes be a bit tricky and require some flexibility due to the weather being bad and poor Rhett’s session was no exception! We pushed the date around and the roads were still tricky to maneuver but we all made it safe and sound into the studio (which was toasty warm!). His family travelled from Moncton to my Saint John studio and I am so glad they made the trip.
Rhett was a DREAM baby! His mama was so excited for his session and I think he was feeding off her energy because he wanted to please us by posing beautifully and sleeping like he was born to be photographed! This is a family that understood the importance of capturing this very brief moment in their children’s lives. They also had newborn pictures taken of their daughter and commented how fast babies grow up. I am so glad I had to chance to make more memories for them!
With the holidays approaching we added a sweet holiday theme set up while keeping with my rustic neutral style.
Sweet Rhett you were so much fun to photograph! I am so glad you came!
