Welcome to the World Baby Owen | Saint John Photographer

Welcome to the world baby Owen!

You had me captivated the moment you entered the studio with your serious little expressions and soulful eyes. You were so sweet and adorable and I have so much fun working with you while slept or seriously observed what was going on around you! That moment when you looked at your Dad and made him laugh I could see you had the same chin as your Dad, even as small as you are!

You have amazing parents and they kept looking at your perfection with awe and happiness. Your sessions was worth all of the effort as you gave us so many different expressions and showed us a glimpse of your personality and what is yet to come.

Here is a little sample of your session.

Perfect Little Shaylee | Saint John Photographer

Perfect little Shaylee was born to be in front of the camera. I had the chance to meet her Mommy during the winter for her maternity session and couldn’t wait for her arrival!

We had girly touches of pink throughout her session with the beautiful warm neutrals. Shaylee curled nicely into her poses and slept so good wrapped in the soft knit wraps. They first thing you notice is her beautiful hair! She had the most amazing hair with a touch of curl rippling all over her head and she was so beautiful!

Here is a little peak into her amazing session!

Dear Little Brother | Saint John Photographer

This dear little brother decided that the session would be all about him, it didn’t matter that his older brother was a superstar and so well behaved and easy to work with. It didn’t matter that he had lovely parents that were so nice to spend time with during the session. Hudson was running the show and made us work hard for every single picture and it was worth every bit of effort!

You would never know from his session pictures that he was a bit stubborn because we were able to capture his sweetness!

baby girl laying on a guitar

Precious Baby Girl | Saint John Photographer

I realized I had completely forgotten to blog about this precious baby girl! Her session was back in November 2014 and she will soon have her first birthday! I had the opportunity to see her a few weeks ago at the Saint John Baby Wearing Photo event and she is still just as sweet and adorable as before!

Her session was so much fun and she slept quite well! She had the sweetest little chubby cheeks and the prettiest hair! Her Mama was requested some pink in her session (which thrills me because I love newborn baby girl’s in pink!) and I had a couple of new headbands in the studio that I couldn’t wait to try.

Her Daddy talked about his love for music and we were able to incorporate one of his guitars that he plays. This image helped by her Dad’s hands holding her safely and then photoshop making him disappear. These specialized shots with elaborate props take careful skill and patience and the understanding that not every baby will co-operate. This sweet baby made us work for the shot but it was worth the extra time and patience.

Thank you so much allowing me to meet your wonderful new family!

I See the Moon | Saint John Photographer

‘I see the moon and the moon sees me, God bless the moon and God bless me!’

I don’t remember when this nursery rhyme was first repeated to me but I do remember always repeating it as a little girl and now repeating the same rhyme to my little ones. The ‘Blood Moon’ (such a gory name) was a big occurrence in our house. We live on the water and were watching the tide rise higher than normal. My oldest, Peter, was especially excited. In class they had been discussing the moon, the patterns, the reasons why the eclipse would happen, why the reddish-orange colour and he was thrilled to be able to explain the specifics to us.

Normally we are sticklers for bedtime. It means quiet time for Josh and I, it means kids who are decently rested and up early for school, less arguments in the morning about crawling out of bed and starting the day. Peter started working on us days before, he just wanted us to wake him up to see the moon. Not to stay up the entire time but just to give him a chance to see this phenomena. At 11:30pm Josh went and woke Peter. He came outside to join us and millions of others across North America.

I am pretty sure I enjoyed his sleepy reaction more than the sight in the sky, as his eyes widened in wonder and his breath caught suddenly to see the moon do something a little different that night. He was in awe to realize the next time he would witness a ‘blood moon’ that he would be an adult.

We left our quiet little party in the cool fall air to return to the fire to warm up and then into bed.

children at New River Beach sitting on the sand

Saint John Studio | Saint John Photographer

It has been almost two years since I opened my studio in Saint John and since that time my business has grown steadily in the direction that I have been working towards.

Being a mother of five young children and a business owner has required balance, which is not always my strongest trait but is a continuous effort. As much as I would have loved to have a huge studio and clients daily, I know I cannot handle the work load and give my children and home the attention they wanted. So, I stayed small.

Clients are always taken aback when they enter the teeny tiny space of Enchanted Hill and I know they are amazed that we can make magic happen with only a little over 100 square feet of space. A small studio has taught me economy, I am careful about props I buy knowing I must be frugal with my limited space. I have learned to be creative in a small space and accept the limitations of space.

I have been sharing a space with Lisa Garnett from Playful Moments Photography and Garnett’s Bridal these past two years. Sharing a space has required compromise on both of our parts and we became good friends as well. Whenever we were both at the studio at the same time and could find a few minutes to chat, we would jump at the chance! As colleagues and business owners we have supported and advised each other and from these talks, and hard work on our own, both of our businesses have grown and we were beginning to feel growing pains. Garnett’s Bridal needed more space and so did I.

On October 1st the studio will be moving to 1216 Sand Cove Road to the Maritime Opportunity Centre. We will have triple the space, close to lots of fields and Irving Nature Park, be able to accommodate larger in-studio family sessions, and for newborn and ordering sessions we will have more room for family members who want to watch!

For everyone who has been pre-booked we will be letting them all know before their sessions, it is only about a 7 minute drive from the current studio.

Once the renovations are complete I will post some of new pictures to show off the new space.
