When Beyonce posted her unique maternity images, one of my clients posted on social media that she should have come to my studio, I agreed and this led her friend Michelle to find me. We booked her session for a few days afterwards because it was almost the last minute (she was due any day!).

Her session was so much fun! She is super sweet and has this friendly bubbly personality that makes working with her a joy. This incredibly beautiful Mama was celebrating her THIRD pregnancy! She looked amazing!! I love that she decided to celebrate this time in her life, it is so exciting and as Michelle said to me herself she didn’t realize how beautiful she looked when pregnant.

Form looking through my portfolio she knew she had to have her picture taken in the with deep wine coloured maternity gown in my studio. This gown has been a massive favourite of my expecting mamas!! The colour is gorgeous and rich and falters any skin tone or hair colour. Fun fact too I actually made this gown with a $6 worth of fabric and then 15 mins sewing time (truthfully in person it is a bit of a hot mess but photographs like a dream!).

The favourite image was the last one in this post, she was shocked at how the backlit portrait was so amazingly beautiful!

Only a few days after her session Michelle’s sweet baby arrived and she was back to the studio for another amazing session (will post in a  few weeks!)

This Mama is always elegant, her wardrobe is carefully planned and the results are stunning! We stuck to the studio as the weather was a bit chilly and we were able to capture some gorgeous images of her expecting this new baby and some updated family ones too. Sylvia also took advantage of the maternity gown I provide at the studio too.

Shooting with them is like shooting with old friends and I was thankful we had extra space in the new studio for Julianna to have some room to play while her Mama had her pictures taken.

Now that your bump is growing and it is time to go shopping for maternity clothes in Saint John. head to google to only find out that the only relevant links are for stores that are CLOSED. I love our little port city but the lack of maternity clothing stores can be frustrating. However, after five pregnancies I have picked up a few tips to make a decent wardrobe for pregnancies!

Shopping in the city:

Head to Old Navy! They have a maternity section within the women’s section of the store. This is something somewhat recent to their store selection and the styles are cute and current.

Walmart has a small section and it is small (usually a rack or two). They often have basics like plain t-shirts and good jeans.

Try Value Village and Salvation Army, not a consistent section but you may find a gem!

Kijiji and Facebook Buy &Sells! These can be gold mines for people selling their entire wardrobes at once for the fraction of the cost!

Online:

Thyme Maternity  Their prices can be set to Canadian and they have free shipping over $120, perfect for more professional pieces and special occasions.

Motherhood Maternity Popular designer name brands, and a current sale that is buy 4 and get one free. They also have a nice selection of plus size maternity clothes.

DIY:

Head to Pinterest and you can find some ideas how to adjust your current wardrobe or sewing your own. If you are handy with a needle and thread this may be a great option!

You may also be surprised by some regular clothes that will work great throughout your pregnancy like maxi dresses, sundresses with a sweater, longer fitting shirts, stretchy yoga pants.

Also do not forget about your undergarments! As your sizing changes due to your pregnancy you can head to Walmart for some maternity wear or into Quispamsis to The Bra Room.

Jessica booked her maternity pictures and I knew she was excited while waiting for Finn to arrive! I have had the pleasure of working with Jessica before when I did her engagements pictures, a few year prior. I love working with repeat clients.

She brought her friend (and one of my favourite people to help assist on session with me) Erica and in that tiny little studio (this was in the old studio on Westmorland) we created some magic! There was its of fun chatter and baby talk and even though the heat from the summer was making the temperature go a little high, we still had a great time.

Jessica had brought some sweet little shoes that she had purchased for their new baby boy, and we created a few outfits to highlight her sweet bump!

Tara made the journey from Grand Manan Island to come to Saint John for her in studio session. The January weather has been bitterly cold so the entire session was shot in studio.

She had sent me a few images from Pinterest that she wanted us to reference. Using the pictures as an inspiration we created a session that is uniquely for Tara, instead of copying.  Copying pictures we find on Pinterest of other web sources is often never as good as the original. Pictures can be incredible because of props, pose, lighting, camera angles, etc…so many little things behind the scenes that we may not be aware of. Instead we take the elements from those pictures and create something a little better! By finished product I would say we nailed it!

Tara was a natural in front of the camera and took direction so easily! One of the setups looked deceiving, it doesn’t look like it will be anything special (in fact it looked a bit ugly) but I knew she would be surprised…sure enough at her ordering appointment those were her favourite images!

I cannot wait for her little one to be born in a few weeks!
