I went to Quispamsis to do newborn portraits of sweet Ada. She was dainty, tiny and delicate and very stubborn! She was curious of what was going on around her and didn’t want to settle. Many hours of cuddling, feeding and soothing. We knew she would at some point succumb to sleep, it only required patience. Her mother and I worked together and soon her little eyelids grew heavy and the sound of her mother’s voice lulled her to sleep.
With her mother’s voice soothing her and softly calling her name every time she stirred, we finally we able to not only capture some beautifully posed images but Ada gifted her parents with a couple of her sweet little smiles.
Ada reminds me how unpredictable newborns can be, they run every photo session. We, photographers, never can make a guarantee to who will sleep and who will do what pose. But the end result of patience is priceless, as her parents will now have sweet pictures in their home of their daughter as a newborn.

It is your final year! You are excited! Time for a photo session all about you! You book me and then you email and ask, ‘What do I wear from my grad session?’ Don’t panic! I like to make things easy for you and here is your ‘What to Wear for Your Grad Session’
There are a few ‘rules’. I call them rules because I can tell you what you will regret in a few years:
No logos (brands come and go, you don’t want to be caught dead in certain brands in a few years).
No baseball caps.
No sunglasses (trust me, mom wants picture of your eyes not your shades).
No sneakers (unless they are brand spanking new!! Sneakers show dirt very easily).
No glittery makeup (The camera will make you look Twilight-y, you will glow in the camera).
No coloured makeup (think neutrals!! it is about enhancing your eyes!).
Try to avoid horizontal lines.
Here are the DO’s:
Where clothes that fit your really well!
Where a favourite shirt or jeans.
Layers! One switch of a sweater or scarf and we have a new look.
Think colour! A few pops of colour are great!
Try on everything before hand, make sure undergarments cannot be seen through tops, make sure there are no buttons missing or tears.
And to help you even more just click on this link to see my Pinterest Board for Grad Style Inspiration!

Michelle and Denver were only recently engaged and had yet to do any wedding planning except for booking their engagement session with me! Within only days of inquiring we booked their session, pushed the time a little ahead due to some clouds that threatened to rain on us.
We didn’t have very much time beforehand to get to know each other but during the session we all got well acquainted. Of course I had to ask, how did he propose? This is always a question I ask all engaged couples, Michelle and Denver were no exception. Michelle instantly smile and her eyes light up when she described how it was romantic because he wrote the big question in the sand. I couldn’t help but grin back at them as I watched Denver’s own smile as he gazed at his fiancée. Michelle explained that they have been together for 7 years…I would venture to say that this would make it her lucky year!
Michelle and Denver must have thought I was a little crazy during the session…we played a couple for silly games, I had them dance, and a few others little weird things. The point of the foolishness? The laughter, the fun and capturing those looks passed between each other. Michelle is beautiful and when she smiled, Denver instantly smiled. I cannot choose my favourites because there were so many great images!
I am so happy you love your pictures Michelle! I hope the rest of your wedding plans go smoothly for you both:)

Carol had called me and said they were getting married outdoors, in St Andrews, overlooking the water. I was so excited for this wedding! Carol and Zack’s wedding day in St Andrews was focused around their family, friends and DIY touches. When Josh and I pulled up to the venue at the Hunstman Aquarium, we saw family and friends scurrying around setting up and being overseen and directed by the wedding coordinator, Sarah Conley of Celebrations by Sarah. Sarah was not only the wedding coordinator but also a bridesmaid! Carol told us the groomsmen had left to get fresh lobster off the boat for the reception, while the bridesmaid were getting their hair and makeup done.
Carol was calm and all smiles watching her best friends and family getting pampered and pretty by the staff at Pure Esthetics. She talked about the bouquets which her mother had put together and her excitement of seeing her ‘girls’ in their dresses.
The hard work and careful overseeing eye from Sarah paid off because their day could not have been more perfect.
Carol was inspired by an image that she saw on Pinterest of a bride and groom who held hands on either side of a door, without seeing each other. No one estimated the impact that moment had for Carol and Zack, it was emotional, beautiful and was truly one of the most memorable.
Before the wedding even started we knew this wedding party was going to be fun, after all, the majority of them were from Deer Island and those folks know how to have a good time. They certainly did not disappoint!
Carol and Zack, thank you so much for asking us to document and be part of your wedding day. We were honoured at the privilege! Congratulations on your new journey as husband and wife!

Family pictures can be very stressful when you are trying to get ready, get there and keep little ones smiling at a stranger with a camera! It doesn’t have to be so stressful, here are my top 5 tips for family pictures!!
1. Know Your Schedule and Adjust if Necessary
When you book make note if this will interrupt nap time, will there be a tight time span from picking up from daycare? Will you have enough time to eat dinner? Do you have enough time to get yourself ready? Majority of photographers may not have weekends available so this means your session may be during the work week, make sure you have the time you need. It may require leaving work early or having a prepared supper as soon as you go home. For little ones and nap times, if you can change or move the nap schedule a little bit it may make a happier baby. The key is to be a little flexible and make sure you have more time then you think you will need.
2. Prepare Your Clothing
Are you not sure what to wear? Ask your photographer well in advance! Make sure you try on all clothing (you do not want to find out that those pants do not fit your son the day of pictures!) and double check in the mirror. Also make sure the clothing is adjustable for the weather, you may need to add sweaters for colder temperatures or take sweaters off for hotter days. Pictures can be very miserable if everyone is chilled from the cold fall breeze. Plan accordingly. Lay everything out the night before and do not forget socks and jewellery!
3. Know Where You are Going
If you are going to a location that your photographer has picked out and you are not 100% sure either use Google Maps or ask to meet your photographer at a well known location like a school or business. You can follow them to the spot and not lose any time from your location. If your photographer is using natural light and your session is scheduled in the evening, losing any time may mean that your session will have to be cut shorter due to the loss of light.
4. Non Messy Snacks
For younger kids it can be a very good idea to have a few non messy snacks hidden away. Just in case someone decided that they were not going to eat dinner that night (I am a mother of picky eaters and this happens always when we need to go somewhere after our meal!), having a little snack in the middle of a session if someone is getting really cranky can help. Snacks that will not be messy are the best! Bringing some wet wipes helps too. Also, think about what everyone has eaten before the session…candy that stains mouths and lips a bright colour are not ideal (like orange pop moustaches!).
5. Act like Having Your Pictures Take Will be SOOOOOO Much Fun
Some people look forward to having their pictures one like a root canal and guess what? Your children can feel that vibe. The result is stiff and cranky kiddos and stressed out parents. Fake it folks! Act like this is going to be SOOOO much fun, that you cannot wait to get your pictures done! Tell them how much fun it is going to be! With tons of patience and and air of excitement, your kids will be more willing to co-operate.
