camping cake smash

Camping Cake Smash

Jackson was back for his first birthday session and cake smash! His Mum wanted a camping theme and we discussed colours and and the setup! I have done a lumberjack theme a few times and adjusted it slightly to suit Jackson. As always he was 100% full of personality and is such a joy to photograph! His Mom and I marvelled at his cuteness and she chased him around the studio! We both laughed and laughed during his cake smash because he thought that was pretty tasty!!!

I cannot wait to see him this fall for the last part of his baby plan!

white boho greenery cake smash

White Boho Greenery Cake Smash

I am so in love with this theme of white boho greenery cake smash!! Whether Mom and I were collaborating on some ideas and she said she wanted this my heart did a little happy dance! I have the sweetest new outfit for it and those floral hoops are my favourite diy I have done in a LONG time! It is so pretty that I even did this theme for my daughters 4th birthday!

Brie was as always so sweet! She is quite stoic and only gave me a few shy smiles but her eyes do all of the talking! She was pleasant and charmed us so many times with her sweet personality (pretty sure she gets that from her Mama!). I loved photographing her again because the last time I saw her she was just a tiny little newborn!!

I always begin my cake smash sessions with a few classic portraits. Capture them sitting or standing, depending what stage they are at. Let them warm up a bit so it doesn’t feel too weird for someone to be holding a big camera to their face! And then we prepare her cake smash setup!

Alvin | A Fredericton Baby Photographer

I really cannot wait till he is older and his Mom yells for the first time, “Alvvvvvin!”….or his first Halloween costume with that red hat and red sweater…all teasing aside this is my nephew and we still giggle over his name and it was the name his sweet Momma has been dreaming of for many years, but first came his two sisters.

Nieces and nephews are at the mercy of their aunty…who gets to kiss them (cause it would be a bit weird to kiss strangers babies) and cuddle them a bit longer. Parents are at the mercy because I will do the setups any way I want. We play around and try new things and the end results are always one or two images I am completely in love with for artistic reasons but mostly because they are my people.

Alvin had some nice greenery in his session and  please don’t ask for that ivy…I killed it. Apparently my new-found hobby of house plants became a hobby of murdering house plants so we will stick with plastic from now on (or bring your own and I promise my black thumb won’t touch it).

When a Newborn Becomes a Big Brother

love those phone calls to tell me that a newborn has become a big brother! Owen was only a few days old the first time I met him! He had the most amazing LIPS and that made me wonder if his little brother would too! Ellis did not disappoint! He also had those pouty lips that really make people look twice!

I love working with this family and Ellis decided to keep up with the other tiny people that have been in the studio, by trying so hard to stay wide awake and check out what was happening around him….but he eventually got baby whispered and we began. Big brother wasn’t a BIT shy but needed a little coaxing and patience to get his picture taken. When he finally agreed it was pure magic! I love those siblings shots!!!

Sweet as her Name

Isla (pronounced eye-la) finally arrived and she was as sweet as her name! Out of the 100+ babies she was our 3rd red head? That alone makes her pretty special (and ironically enough we have photographed another Isla who is ALSO a sweet red head!!). She arrived when she was ready and she also was very curious to what was happening. She looked around and had a bit of a stare down but once she fell asleep she was down for the count! her session was all beautiful florals with some green. Soft pink, cream, mulberry and postal pink looked charming with her sweet hair and soft little cheeks.

We were pretty in love with her! I love the perfection and the artwork that newborn sessions create. Being able to see every angle, every small detail.

Slow Summer of 2018 | New Brunswick Photographer

Last summer I had the most amazing clients, every week I was in the studio with new babies and families. The weekends were spent photographing weddings, Sundays were uploading and double saving images and editing…every spare moment went to editing. While on vacation I answered phone messages, emails, chatted with brides and made sure we had the details we needed. In short, it was pure madness. Career wise is a success. Clients coming out of my ears and mazing clients who I loved photographing.

On the family side of things I sucked. if you asked my kids what we did last summer they will tell you we went to PEI and we watched tv because Mom was working.

This is the conundrum I have been facing for 14 years. How do you balance being a good mother while running a business? I have been self employed since Charles was a baby (and this kid is turning 12 this year!) and I have felt myself struggling between the ambitious working goals  and satisfaction that only motherhood can bring.

I love my work. It has allowed me to work in the cracks of my children’s lives, given me a creative outlet, and introduced this chatty introvert to amazing people who have turned into friends. I truthfully enjoy a full calendar, having something to look forward and work towards.

Last summer the scale slipped the wrong way. I said yes, too many times and booked what I could. Only to regret how the summer became a hot sticky blur. The fire pit we bought for family evening was never used once. The planned picnic recipes were never made and I realized that September had arrived without me purchasing a single pencil.

Summer of 2018 is a slow summer with only a few special clients. I will still be taking pictures but rather my favourite subjects…the ones who taught me to love photography and the reason why I feel it is so important. For the first time in over 6 years I will be taking my camera along, grabbing it to capture them. Like below when my girls were experiencing running through a sprinkler for the first time ever. When my schedule has been so full I didn’t want to photograph or edit anything else, a bit of the cobbler’s child happening in our household.

This will be a slow summer, with a few little adventures, a whole lotta memories because before I know it, it will be time to buy pencils again.
